Microsoft Fabric Health Check

A read-only review of your Fabric and Power BI tenant: what is running, what it costs and what to fix first. Fixed fee from $5,000.

A Fabric health check is a read-only review of your Microsoft Fabric and Power BI tenant. We look at how hard your capacity is working, which workspaces and items are still in use, how sharing and tenant settings are configured, how refreshes are doing and how changes reach production. You get findings with evidence, ranked by effort and impact, and the report is yours to keep. Nothing in your tenant changes.

Good fit if

Organizations asking whether they pay for more capacity than they need, admins who inherited a tenant that grew on its own, and leaders who want an independent view of a Fabric implementation before the next renewal or the next phase.

What it includes

  • Capacity use from your Capacity Metrics data: peaks, throttling and the right SKU size
  • Workspace inventory: active, inactive and stale workspaces and items
  • Governance: tenant settings, external and public sharing, content ownership and connections
  • Refresh load and failures across your semantic models
  • Version control and deployment: how changes move from development to production
  • A scorecard, a findings report with prioritized recommendations, and a 60-minute readout

How it runs

  1. Scope

A free 30-minute call about your environment and what you need answered. We recommend a tier and you get a fixed price.

  2. Connect

Your administrator approves the Birch Run app with read-only access. We run the collection.

  3. Analyze

Findings with evidence, ranked by effort and impact.

  4. Readout

We walk your team through the findings and recommendations. The report is yours.

What it costs

  • Health Check, about 2 weeks $5,000
  • Advanced Health Check, 3 to 4 weeks $10,000

A fixed fee, agreed before we start. On the free scoping call we look at your environment together and recommend the right tier.

Common questions

What does the Advanced Health Check add?

Everything in the Health Check, plus semantic model analysis (size, storage mode, Direct Lake health and best-practice checks), a review of your pipelines, dataflows, notebooks and copy jobs (what runs, how often and what it costs), capacity right-sizing based on the measured load of each model and pipeline, team interviews, a prioritized roadmap, and separate readouts for leadership and developers.

Will you change anything in our tenant?

No. Access is read-only from start to finish. If something needs changing, it goes in the report as a recommendation, and your team decides what to do with it.

What data do you collect?

Configuration and usage metadata only: capacities, workspaces, items, settings, refresh history and capacity utilization. We never read report or table data. Email addresses are anonymized before anything is stored, and access is removed when the engagement ends.

What access do you need?

Your administrator approves the Birch Run app with read-only access to your tenant. Your IT and security team can review exactly what it can read before anyone approves it.

What happens after the readout?

Next steps are your choice: implementation support, team training, or a follow-up check in six months to measure progress. Each is quoted separately, and none is required.
