Power BI Premium to Fabric migration
Move from Power BI Premium to a Fabric capacity in one planned window, sized from your real usage, checked afterwards, with a way back. Flat fee from $6,000.
Power BI Premium per capacity (P SKUs) retires at the end of each customer’s current agreement, and the move to a Microsoft Fabric (F SKU) capacity is not automatic. We size the new capacity from your actual usage, move a pilot first and then the rest, and check afterwards that every refresh schedule, data connection and refresh still works. Your Premium capacity stays on as the fallback until you are satisfied.
Good fit if
Organizations with a Premium capacity coming up for renewal, IT teams who want the move done in a planned window instead of a project, and admins who need to show leadership a plan and a way back before anything changes.
What it includes
- F SKU sizing from your own Capacity Metrics data, not a lookup table
- A written migration plan your team approves before anything moves
- A pilot first, then production in one planned window
- Every workspace verified on the new capacity, with a one-step rollback
- Health checks after the move: refresh schedules intact, connections unchanged, refreshes succeeding
- Capacity settings recreated on the new capacity
- Two weeks of follow-up checks and a handover note
How it runs
-
Readiness
A kickoff call, an inventory of every capacity and workspace, and an F SKU recommendation from your usage data.
-
Plan
A written plan listing every workspace that will move. Nothing changes until your team approves it.
-
Pilot
Two or three low-risk workspaces move first, then a full health check.
-
Cutover
The rest move in one agreed window, with rollback ready and checks straight after.
-
Follow-up
Health checks after the first scheduled refreshes and twice a week for two weeks, then a handover note.
What it costs
- Fewer than 100 workspaces $6,000
- 100 workspaces or more $12,000
A flat fee for one Premium capacity moving to one Fabric capacity in the same region. We count your workspaces in the first call, so you know the price before you sign.
Common questions
Will my reports and refresh schedules change?
No. In a same-region move, reports, semantic models, incremental refresh policies and refresh schedules move with the workspace. We record every schedule and data connection before the move and check them again afterwards, so you have proof rather than a promise.
Is there downtime?
For standard Power BI content in the same region, no, apart from refreshes running at the moment a workspace moves. Those are cancelled and need re-running, which is why we pick a quiet window and check afterwards.
What if something goes wrong?
Your Premium capacity stays on until you are satisfied, and every workspace in the plan can be moved back in one step. Most problems we look for, such as a gateway connection or a credential, are fixed in place without rolling back.
Which Fabric capacity do I need?
Microsoft maps P1 to F64, P2 to F128 and so on, and that is the safe starting point. We check your actual usage first, because some organizations can run smaller and pause when idle, and some need headroom. Note that on capacities smaller than F64, every report viewer needs a Power BI Pro license.
What is not included in the flat fee?
Moves between Azure regions, more than one Premium capacity, Private Link or customer-managed keys, and fixing problems that were already failing before the move. We quote those separately at our standard rate with a not-to-exceed number.
